Grigory Potemkin (born 11 October 1739, Chizhovo) was a Russian Empire politician, military personnel, and linguist. He was educated at Imperial Moscow University and was a citizen of the Russian Empire. Grigory was the son of Alexander Potemkin and had relatives, including Pyotr Potemkin.
Potemkin was known for the term "Potemkin village". It is said that Grigory Potemkin used fake villages to deceive Empress Catherine the Great during her visit to Ukraine and Crimea. He received the Order of St. Vladimir award during his lifetime. Grigory Potemkin passed away on 16 October 1791 in Iași.
