Handball is a 7-on-7 team ball game (6 fielders and a goalie on each team). They play with their hands. The aim of the game is to throw the ball as many times as possible into the opponent's goal (3 m × 2 m). The game is played in two halves of 30 minutes, with a break of 15 minutes between halves.
Modern handball is played indoors on a rectangular court of 40×20 m. The goal is surrounded by a 6-meter (20-foot) area where only the goalie defender is allowed. Goals must be scored by throwing the ball from outside the area or by "sliding" through it. The sport is usually played indoors, but there are outdoor versions of the game in the form of field handball and Czech handball (which used to be more common) and beach handball.
