Harlow Shapley

Harlow Shapley was an American astronomer , scientist , politician , and activist born on November 2, 1885, in Nashville, Tennessee . He held citizenship of the United States and was educated at Princeton University and the University of Missouri . Henry Norris Russell served as his doctoral advisor , while Shapley was the doctoral advisor for Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin, Carl Keenan Seyfert, and James Cuffey . Harlow Shapley passed away on October 20, 1972, in Colorado .

Shapley was the father of Lloyd Shapley, Alan Shapley, and Mildred Shapley Matthews . He lived and worked in the United States throughout his career .
