Heart Aerospace is a Sweden-based company developing the ES-19 regional electric airplane for inter-city travel. The plane is designed for short-distance trips that are not suitable for a traditional airplane that uses fuel.
The ES-19 is the first plane developed by Heart Aerospace. It is a fully electric aircraft with space for nineteen passengers. Heart Aerospace stated the plane's maximum range for travel is 250 miles in its first iteration. However, the company expects the range to increase with future developments and advances in battery technology. Heart Aerospace also noted that the cost of the electric motor is twenty times less expensive compared to the conventional turboprop of similar size.
In July of 2021, United Airlines and Mesa Airlines both announced agreements to acquire 100 ES-19 aircraft from Heart Aerospace to add to their existing fleets. United Airline Ventures is looking to enhance its portfolio with the investment, as it is looking to meet its goal of net-zero greenhouse gasses.
