Heidelberg University, also known as Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg, is a public educational institution in Germany. Founded in 1386 by Rupert I, Elector Palatine, it is accredited by the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts of Baden-Württemberg. The university is situated in the city of Heidelberg.
Heidelberg University operates in the education, higher education, and university industries. Its motto is "Semper Apertus". The institution is affiliated with several organizations, such as the Coimbra Group, European University Association, League of European Research Universities, International Association of Universities, European Association for International Education, German Rectors’ Conference, and German U15.
Heidelberg University has multiple subsidiaries, including faculties of Law, Medicine, Mathematics and Computer Science, Economics and Social Sciences, Biosciences, Theology, Physics and Astronomy, Behavioural Sciences and Empirical Cultural Sciences, Medicine in Mannheim, Chemistry and Earth Sciences, Modern Languages, Philosophy and History. It also has a library and an affiliate, Heidelberg University (Ohio).
