Henryk Sienkiewicz was born on May 5, 1846, in Wola Okrzejska, then part of the Russian Empire. He was educated at the University of Warsaw. Sienkiewicz was a screenwriter, journalist, writer, and novelist. His work often comprised various genres, including short stories, novellas, feuilletons, and novels.
Henryk Sienkiewicz is known for his historical novels, particularly the internationally renowned best-seller "Quo Vadis". Some of his other notable works include "With Fire and Sword," "In Desert and Wilderness," "The Knights of the Cross," "Fire in the Steppe," and "Janko Muzykant".
In recognition of his contributions to literature, Sienkiewicz received the 1905 Nobel Prize in Literature. He passed away on November 15, 1916, in Vevey.
