Hermann Cohen (born July 4, 1842, in Coswig, Anhalt; died April 4, 1918, in Berlin) was a German philosopher and scientist. Holding German citizenship, Cohen was educated at the Jewish Theological Seminary of Breslau, University of Marburg, Frederick William University, and Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg.
He studied under doctoral advisor Friedrich Adolf Trendelenburg. Cohen was influential in shaping the philosophical thoughts of doctoral students Ernst Cassirer and Nicolai Hartmann.
