Hikma, also known as Hikma Pharmaceuticals, is a London-based pharmaceutical manufacturing company. It was founded in 1978 in Jordan and has since expanded to have locations in other Middle East and North Africa (MENA) countries, Europe, the United States, and Canada. The company manufactures more than 760 different types of generic pharmaceutical products throughout its thirty-two manufacturing plants.
Hikma has three distinct groups of pharmaceuticals that it produces: injectables, branded products, and generic products.
Hikma manufactures sterile injectable medical products for drug delivery systems as well as specialized products, such as emulsion. These products are made at manufacturing sites throughout the United States, MENA, and Europe.
In July 2023, the need for Hikma injectable products surged as one of Pfizer's injectable manufacturing plants, in North Carolina, was severely damaged by a tornado. The site that was hit is one of the largest sterile injectable facilities in the world, and Hikma is one of the few manufacturers that could increase its production load to make up for the loss of products from Pfizer.
Hikma produces branded generic pharmaceuticals that are specifically made for patients in the MENA region. Its branded generics treat conditions such as diabetes and cancer.
Hikma offers oral and non-injectable generic pharmaceutical products for the United States market. It manufactures generic products in various forms, such as oral pills, liquids, and nasal sprays. These products are manufactured at a plant located in Columbus, Ohio.
