IBM Cognos Business Intelligence is a business intelligence company that provides a wide range of functionality to help companies understand their organization's data. The firm, Cognos, was acquired by IBM on January 31, 2008, and is led by Rob Ashe and John Lindner.
The firm is interested in helping companies that are in industries such as analytics, business intelligence, enterprise software, information technology, and software sectors. IBM Cognos Business Intelligence is split into several different components including IBM Cognos Connection, Insight, Workspace and Workspace Advanced, Report Studio, Event Studio, Metric Studio, Microsoft(tm) Office, Query Studio, and Analysis Studio.
The suite helps companies analyze data, explore scenarios, and influence decisions by creating personal or managed workspaces. The suite allows users to create sophisticated interactive workspaces using IBM Cognos content, or external data sources and matching with specific information needs. The firm works with Microsoft's office suite. IBM Cognos Business Intelligence looks to create reports with automation.
IBM released the final version of IBM Cognos Business Intelligence, version 10.2.2 which was last modified on December 4, 2018. The next version of IBM Cognos Business Intelligence, version 11.1, was renamed to IBM Cognos Analytics when introduced in late 2018.
IBM Cognos Analytics includes new features, data modules and dashboards. The new reporting module allows users to build self-service reports for data analysis and data exploration and create multi-page and multi-query reports. The reporting module replaces Report Studio, Query Studio, Analysis Studio and Workspace Advanced but uses the same metadata definition as the old studios.
