Ilya Sukhar is a founder of Parse, a part-time partner at Y Combinator and a general partner at Matrix Partners. He has been an angel investor, led platform development projects at Facebook, and has worked to help other startups as a partner at Matrix Partners.
Ilya Sukhar attended Cornell University from 2003 to 2007 to pursue a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Operations Research and Information Engineering. While there, Ilya Sukhar worked as a teaching assistant for an object-oriented programming and data structures class on the sophomore level and for a foundations of artificial intelligence class on the senior level. He also participated in distributed systems research with Gun Sirer.
From 2007 to 2008, Ilya Sukhar pursed his masters of engineering degree in computer science at Cornell University.
From 2008 to 2010, Ilya Sukhar worked as a senior software engineer at Ooyala, an online video platform. While there, Ilya Sukhar was responsible for building large parts of the product and was active in recruiting and business development.
In 2010, Ilya Sukhar was the first employee at Etacts, an automated and intelligent CRM. While there he worked as part of the engineering and product development team. Etacts was acquired by Salesforce in December 2010 and Ilya Sukhar continued on there for a little longer.
In 2011, Ilya Sukhar co-founded and acted as Chief Executive Officer for Parse. Parse was a cloud service for mobile developers. They were acquired by Facebook in April 2013, where Parse operated as a semi independent subsidiary. Ilya Sukhar continued working until 2016, at which point Facebook chose to exit the hosting business.
Parse has continued to be used as an open source project with support at Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform.
From 2014 to 2016, Ilya Sukhar worked as a part-time partner for Y Combinator where he invested in and helped early stage startups.
As of 2016, Ilya Sukhar began to serve as a General Partner at Matrix Partners. As part of Matrix Partners, he invests in seed and Series A startups. As a part of Matrix Partners, he has participated in investments in Parabola, Fivetran, FeaturePeek, Guilded, Flock Safety, Slab, Open Listings, Guilded, Height, and Mashgin. He has held board and advisor roles at Parabola, Guilded, Open Listings, and Fivetran.
Ilya Sukhar has acted as an angel investor since 2014. His personal investments have included Parabola, Scale AI, Mux, SkyGiraffe, Sentry, Reflect, Honeycomb, Triplebyte, Bluecrew, Transifex, Airtable, Shape Analytics, and Yhat.
