Immuta is a developer of a data management platform intended to securely connect data to data scientists and business analysts. The company's platform provides a single, simplified interface to manage and monitor data and connects data from any storage system into a simplified virtual catalog, enabling data scientists to benefit from rapid and personalized data access.
The Immuta platform automates data access control, ensuring each user who queries data sees only the data they are supposed to see, based on their approved purpose or role. The platform aims to create trust across data engineering, security, legal, compliance, and business teams so they can work together to ensure timely access to critical data with minimal risk, while adhering to global data privacy regulations including the GDPR, CCPA, and HIPAA.
The platform is built to integrate into an existing architecture, regardless of the complexity, and in order to allow for consistent and scalable policy enforcement. This can be integrated in the cloud, on premise, or with hybrid architectures. The platform is built to be capable of attribute-based access control, discovery and classification, policy enforcement and auditing, and masking and anonymization for data control. The platform is built to connect to different data sources, such as databricks, Microsoft Azure, Snowflake, and Amazon Redshift.
The platform has been developed for use in industries such as financial services, healthcare and life sciences, and the public sector. The use cases for these sectors and industries include:
The Immuta platform can provide automated access and privacy controls across cloud data platforms to help control enterprise-wide access to data across multiple cloud platforms, especially when, in some deployments, each architecture has its own security and access controls. This can reduce the complexity across data ecosystems and is intended to help data teams deliver data, simplify administration, and reduce overall risk.
For enterprises working to migrate data to a public cloud, and where security is a major consideration, the Immuta platform helps govern sensitive data and ensure data management is consistent through the migration process. This includes connecting a user's data, whether the data live in the cloud, on premises, or in a hybrid scenario; offering access controls and policies in a central place; and auditing all activity to ensure data compliance.
Similar to the platform's capability of helping enterprises through data migration, the platform is also able to use the platform's unified access and control layer to create a single place to manage all data. This can make any governance easier to apply and allow complex policies on all data to be applied without needing to write multiple memos or code to bring data in a disparate environment into compliance.
With other compliance-focused features, Immuta offers workspaces that allow people to collaborate without concern over accessing data they should not access. This is combined with the platform's masking techniques, data fingerprinting, and policy inheritance, to ensure the data users can collaborate even in stringent data compliance environments.
Users and customers of Immuta and the company's platform include Aon, AstrumU, Billie, Cognoa, Credit Suisse, Daimler, Doxo, Eisai, Flatiron, iag, LMI, RadarFirst, S&P Global, Socure, The Center for New Data, Worldquant Predictive, and the United States Army.
Technology partners of Immuta's include AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, Databricks, Snowflake, Okta, Collibra, Dataiku, Looker, Starburst, BigID, Tableau, and Alation. While solution partners include Wipro, LMI, Information Asset, Sila, epam, Anexinet, True North Data, Trace3, and Red Olive.
Immuta was founded in 2014 by Matthew Carroll, Steve Touw, and Michael Schiller, each veterans of the United States intelligence community, where they worked on sensitive data governance problems. Immuta has offices in Boston, Massachusetts; Columbus, Ohio; and College Park, Maryland.
