InteraXon was founded by Ariel Garten who has a background in fashion design, neuroscience and psychotherapy. She is the Chief Evangelist Officer and the main face of Muse. A North American executive education program, EY Entrepreneurial Winning Women Program named Garten to the class of 2015.
Founded in 2007, InteraXon received startup money from Indiegogo crowdfunding and seed money from FF Venture Capital. Muse came on the market in 2014. Muse has investments from actor Ashton Kutcher, Indigo CEO Heather Reisman and Chade-Meng Tan, formerly of Google. Muse has been used in academic research in neuroscience.
The wearable EEG device, Muse connects to a mobile device via Bluetooth and the Muse Meditation app used audio to guide meditation and allows you to review and track progress in meditation. When Muse senses calm brain activity, peaceful sounds are played, and stormy weather sounds increase if the mind wanders.
InteraXon has demonstated their mind-controlled computing technology in public displays such as levitating a chair, a brain powered beer tap and during the 2010 Olympics it enabled visitors to control the Niagara Falls, CN Tower and Canadian Parliament buildings with mind power.
