Company attributes
International Card Services (ICS) is a credit card company based in the Netherlands and Germany. The company has over three million customers in the Netherlands and Germany, with over 600 employees. ICS offers all services related to Visa and MasterCard credit cards and is one of the ten largest credit card issuers in Europe.
ICS originated from the Netherlands-based activities of the Bank of America, the first bank to issue credit cards. The Bank of America withdrew from the Dutch market and sold its credit card division to VSB Bank. In 1990, VSB Bank merged with AMEV and the AG Group to become Fortis. ICS is an independent subsidiary of ABN AMRO Bank (Nederland) NV. Fifteen years later, European Merchant Services took over the merchant-acquiring services of ICS.
ICS holds a banking license from De Nederlandsche Bank(DNB) and has been granted licenses by the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) to offer credit and savings accounts and to provide intermediary services with respect to insurance policies. ICS is registered with both the DNB and the AFM.
The company also participates in the deposit guarantee scheme of the Netherlands. This deposit guarantee scheme applies to current accounts, savings accounts, term deposits made by private individuals, and legal entities and covers up to 100,000 EUR per bank per depositor. ICS is a member of Deposit Guarantee Fund (DGF) and makes its contributions into it.
