Isao Takahata (たかはた いさお) was born on October 29, 1935, in Ise, Mie, Japan, and held Japanese citizenship. He was an accomplished film director, screenwriter, animator, impresario, and animation director. Takahata was educated at the University of Tokyo.
Takahata was the founder of Studio Ghibli, one of the most famous animation studios in the world. Among the notable works within his directing portfolio are The Little Norse Prince and Grave of the Fireflies. Grave of the Fireflies is also one of his most renowned works. In addition, he authored Hotaru no Haka.
Isao Takahata passed away in Tokyo on April 5, 2018.
