Istanbul University, also known as Istanbul Üniversitesi and Istanbul Universitesi, is a public educational institute located in Istanbul, Turkey. The university was founded by Mehmed the Conqueror on January 1, 1453. Istanbul University is an accredited institution under the Council of Higher Education in Turkey and is a member of the European University Association.
The university operates in the education, higher education, and university industries. Istanbul University has several subsidiaries, including the Istanbul Zoology Museum, Istanbul University Observatory, and Istanbul University State Conservatory. As the owner of the Istanbul Zoology Museum, the university plays a role in the preservation and research of various zoological specimens.
