J. P. McGowan (born February 24, 1880 - died March 26, 1952) was an Australian-born film director, screenwriter, film producer, and actor. He was born in Terowie, South Australia and passed away in Hollywood.
Throughout his career, McGowan directed several films, including The Hazards of Helen, Do or Die (serial), Perils of the Yukon, Elmo the Mighty, Elmo the Fearless, and Red Blood. He also directed Heart of the Rockies, The Voice in the Fog, Tragedy of the Desert, Mistaken Orders, Arizona Days, and Below the Deadline.
Additionally, McGowan worked on films like Crack o' Dawn, Hills of Missing Men, Stormy Seas, One Million in Jewels, Blood and Steel, Barriers of the Law, Riding Romance, and The Fear Fighter. Some of his other directorial works include The Lure of the Track, Crossed Signals, Unseen Enemies, The Brown Derby, The Lost Limited, Thunderbolt's Tracks, Aflame in the Sky, West of Santa Fe, Manhattan Cowboy, Lightnin' Shot, and The Outlaw Tamer.
