German-born american physiologist and biologist
Jacques Loeb (1859-1924) was a biologist and psychologist born in Mayen on April 7, 1859. He held citizenship in the United States, German Confederation, German Empire, Weimar Republic, and the Kingdom of Prussia.
Loeb was educated at the Humboldt University of Berlin and the University of Strasbourg. His doctoral advisor was Friedrich Goltz. Jacques Loeb went on to have two doctoral students, William John Crozier and John Howard Northrop.
Jacques Loeb passed away in Hamilton, Bermuda on February 11, 1924.
