Belgian mathematician
Jacques Tits was a mathematician and professor born in Uccle on August 12, 1930. He held citizenship in both France and Belgium. Throughout his career, he primarily worked in France.
Tits was most famously known for his contributions to the field of mathematics. Throughout his career, he mentored several doctoral students, including Jens Carsten Jantzen, Karl-Otto Stöhr, Michael Otte, and Olivier Mathieu (entrepreneur).
In recognition of his work, Tits was awarded the 2008 Abel Prize. Jacques Tits passed away on December 5, 2021, in the 13th arrondissement of Paris.
