James Carnegie, 9th Earl of Southesk (born November 16, 1827, in Edinburgh; died February 21, 1905, in Angus, Scotland) was a member of the aristocracy, a writer, and a politician . He held the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland citizenship .
He was the son of Sir James Carnegie, 5th Baronet, and attended Edinburgh Academy for his education . James Carnegie had three children: David Carnegie (explorer), Lancelot Carnegie, and Charles Carnegie, who eventually became the 10th Earl of Southesk .
James Carnegie's career included writing and politics, and he was known for being the father of explorer David Carnegie .
