James Crichton (born August 19, 1560, in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland) was a Scottish mathematician who held citizenship in Scotland. Known as "the Admirable Crichton", he was a polymath noted for his extraordinary accomplishments in languages, the arts, and sciences. Crichton was educated at the University of St Andrews and the University of Paris. He was born to father Robert Crichton, the Lord Advocate, and mother Elizabeth Stewart.
