James Whitcomb Riley (born October 7, 1849, in Greenfield, Indiana) was an American poet and writer. He held citizenship in the United States and was known for his mastery of using regional dialects in his writing. Riley adopted the pseudonym "Benjamin P. Johnson of Boone" for some of his works.
