SBIR/STTR Award attributes
Developing low noise eVTOL aircraft is a prime goal to ensure their community acceptance in civilian operations or enhance operational effectiveness for DoD users. Jaunt Air Mobility (www.jauntairmobility.com), selected by UBER in 2019 as their 6th partner under the Elevate Program, is developing the Journey, a 4 place all-electric eVTOL Compound Gyrodyne Air-Taxi. Entry into service is expected in 2026. Also planned are Cargo, Medivac, and Close-Air-Support derivatives. Jaunt owns rights to all of Carter Aviation’s Intellectual Property, notably ROSA (Reduced rotor Operating Speed Aircraft) Technology, and 24 related patents. We will be test flying the Jaunt JTD, a modified version of the Carter PAV demonstrator which first flew in 2011, to refine the technologies necessary for the detailed design of the Journey. For example, we will install and test a new patented Scimitar propeller of our own design. The goal of this STTR is to gain a comprehensive understanding of noise sources in our configurations employing novel acoustics techniques and analysis tools developed and validated by Penn State, our University partner and CDI – Continuum Dynamics, Inc. We will apply the knowledge thus gained for the detailed design of the Journey and its derivatives to develop efficient, low noise aircraft for our customers.
