Jean-François Millet (born October 4, 1814, in Gréville-Hague, and died January 20, 1875, in Barbizon) was a French painter and photographer. He held citizenship in France and was educated at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts.
Millet is known for founding the Barbizon school, which focused on landscape and genre paintings. Some of his most notable works include "The Gleaners", "The Potato Harvest", and "The Angelus (painting)".
