French mathematician
Jean-Pierre Serre, born on September 15, 1926, in Bages, Pyrénées-Orientales , is a French mathematician. Serre was educated at the University of Paris and currently resides in France. Serre's work in the field of mathematics has led to him being awarded the Fields Medal in 1954 and the prestigious Abel Prize in 2003.
Serre's doctoral advisor was Henri Cartan, a fellow French mathematician.
