Jennifer Fitzgerald is the CEO of Policygenius, an online insurance marketplace. She co-founded the company in 2014 with Francois de Lame, a colleague from her time at McKinsey & Company where they worked together advising major insurance firms in the early 2000s. Working with insurance firms helped them see the opportunity to bring modern digital convenience to the process of shopping for insurance, which led them to start Policygenius. Because they were first-time founders prior to the insurtech boom, they were unable to close institutional investment to start the company. They instead raised $750,000 from friends and family. By 2020, they had raised over $100 million and grew to more than 30 million users. Fitzgerald was a management consultant at McKinsey & Company for five years prior to co-founding Policygenius.
In 2019, she was named EY Entrepreneur of the Year and one of Fast Company’s 100 Most Creative People in Business in 2018. Jennifer has been featured on NPR’s How I Built This, in The New York Times and in the Wall Street Journal.
Early in her career, she was a Peace Corps volunteer in Honduras for two years. After leaving the Peace Corps, she remained in Honduras and worked for the World Bank as a Junior Professional Associate for another two years. She also did stand-up comedy.
Fitzgerald earned a BA in international affairs and political science from Florida State University and a JD in law from Columbia Law School. Fitzgerald was the first in her family to graduate from college.
