John Eccles (1903-1997) was an Australian neurophysiologist, philosopher, physician, and professor. He was born in Melbourne, Australia and passed away in Locarno. Eccles studied at Melbourne High School and furthered his education at Magdalen College, Oxford. Charles Scott Sherrington served as his doctoral advisor, and Stephen Kuffler was his doctoral student. Eccles was recognized with the 1963 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his achievements.
