Jewish-hungarian american mathematician, computer scientist, and educator
John G. Kemeny (born May 31, 1926, in Budapest) was a mathematician, computer scientist, and economist. He held citizenship in both Hungary and the United States. Kemeny received his education at Princeton University.
During his career, John G. Kemeny was a doctoral student of Alonzo Church and later served as the doctoral advisor for Václav E. Beneš. One of his most notable contributions to the field of computer science was the creation of the programming language called BASIC. Kemeny passed away on December 26, 1992, in Hanover, New Hampshire.
