John Hicks (1904-1989) was a British economist known for his work in several areas of the field, including the IS-LM model, capital theory, consumer theory, general equilibrium theory, welfare theory, and induced innovation. Born in Warwick, he held citizenship in both the United Kingdom and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.
Hicks was educated at Clifton College and Balliol College, Oxford. He focused on economics and macroeconomics throughout his career. Cliff Lloyd was one of his doctoral students.
In 1972, Hicks was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for his contributions to the field. He passed away in Blockley in 1989.
