John Jacob Astor, 1st Baron Astor of Hever (born May 20, 1886, in New York City) was an American-British politician who held dual citizenship in the United States and the United Kingdom. Astor was educated at Eton College, one of the most prestigious schools in England. He was the son of William Waldorf Astor, an American businessman, and a member of the prominent Astor family.
John Jacob Astor's political career involved serving in the British House of Commons and being elevated to the House of Lords. The Astors eventually settled in Hever Castle, and in recognition of his services, John Jacob Astor was granted the title of Baron Astor of Hever.
He passed away at the age of 85 in Cannes, France, on July 19, 1971. Throughout his life, John Jacob Astor, 1st Baron Astor of Hever, remained a prominent figure in both American and British society as a politician, aristocrat, and member of the renowned Astor family.
