John M. Stahl was an American film director, producer, and screenwriter. Born on January 21, 1886, in Baku, he later gained United States citizenship. He was one of the founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Throughout his career, Stahl directed numerous films. Some of them include: The Lincoln Cycle, Wives of Men, The Woman in His House, Her Code of Honor, The Woman Under Oath, Fine Clothes, Strictly Dishonorable, Back Street, Only Yesterday, Parnell, Immortal Sergeant, Leave Her to Heaven, and Father Was a Fullback, among others.
