John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich, was born on November 13, 1718 and was a citizen of the Kingdom of Great Britain. He passed away on April 30, 1792, in Chiswick. John Montagu was the son of Edward Montagu, Viscount Hinchingbrooke and had four children: John Montagu, 5th Earl of Sandwich; Basil Montagu; Edward Montagu (1692–1776); and William Augustus Montagu.
Montagu received his education at Eton College and later studied at Trinity College, Cambridge. Throughout his life, John Montagu held various occupations such as a diplomat, officer in the armed forces, politician, and cricketer. He was the father of Basil Montagu, a writer and jurist.
