John Young (1930-2018) was an American astronaut, officer of armed forces, test pilot, and aircraft pilot. He was born in San Francisco, held citizenship in the United States, and passed away in Houston.
Young, whose birth name was John Watts Young, was educated at the Georgia Institute of Technology and the United States Naval Test Pilot School. He was a child of William Young and Wanda Young.
Throughout his career, Young received numerous awards, including the Navy Astronaut Wings, NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal, NASA Space Flight Medal, and NASA Exceptional Engineering Achievement Medal. Additionally, he was honored with the Navy Distinguished Service Medal, NASA Outstanding Leadership Medal, NASA Exceptional Service Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross (United States), NASA Distinguished Service Medal, and Congressional Space Medal of Honor.
