Jonathan David Edwards was born on October 5, 1966 in Westminster, United Kingdom. He is a former British triple jumper and was educated at West Buckland School, Durham University, and Van Mildert College, Durham. Jonathan is in a partnership with Alison and together they have two children, Nathan and Sam. He currently resides in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Throughout his career, Edwards has received numerous awards and recognitions. In 1995, he was named Men's European Athlete of the Year, L'Équipe's International Champion of Champions, and United Press International Athlete of the Year. Edwards won a gold medal in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games Triple Jump event and a silver medal in the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games Triple Jump event. He also earned a gold medal in the 1995 Gothenburg World Championships Triple Jump event and a silver medal in the 2001 Lisbon World Indoor Championships Triple Jump event. Additionally, Edwards took home gold medals in the 1998 New York Goodwill Games, the 1998 Budapest European Championships, and the 1998 Valencia European Indoor Championships.
