Just One Giant Lab (JOGL) is a non-profit research and innovation laboratory operating through a distributed network of volunteers that is headquartered in Paris, France and was founded in 2017 by Thomas Landrain, Leo Blondel, and Marc Santolini. JOGL partners with other academic labs, companies, startups, foundations NGOs, and public services to operate its participatory research and innovation programs related health, environmental, social, and humanitarian issues. JOGL has particular focuses on projects aiming to solve issues related to the sustainable development goals defined by the United Nations.
Notable companies working with JOGL include: CRI, Share It, Sanofi, Correlaid, Wild Code School, Data For Good, S3Odeon, Excelya, Girls in Tech, Epitech, Tuea, SUP Biotech, Kap Code, and AXA Research Fund.
JOGL claims their platform helps community members contribute idea and projects, engage with other peoples projects, share projects and resources with others, learn and teach others, collaborate with teams to help solve challenges, publish their work, search and identify projects, navigate through collaborative structures of teams, and get rewarded for their contributions. JOGL provides three roles for people participating in projects using their platform, they are: leaders (any person or group establishing a project), contributors (any person or group helping work on projects), and enablers (any organizations foundations, NGOs, public institutions, or startups willing to contribute resources to help JOGL projects.
JOGL is hosting the OpenCovid19 Initiative. A project aiming to collectively create open-source and low-cost tools and methodologies to fight the COVID-19 pandemic by pooling resources from all possible sources willing to participate. Projects established (as of March 18, 2020 ) to fight the COVID-19 pandemic include a ventilator project (hardware) and an O2 concentrator project (hardware).
