Kanpla, a Danish SaaS company specializing in digital solutions for the catering industry, has successfully raised €8 million in a Series A funding round, led by Dutch venture capital firm HenQ. Founded to streamline and modernize catering operations in workplaces, universities, and other institutions, Kanpla’s platform has quickly gained traction across Europe. In just under two years, the company has expanded its service offerings from Denmark to ten countries, including the UK, Benelux, and Scandinavian regions, demonstrating strong demand for digital transformation in contract catering.
Kanpla’s platform offers a range of features aimed at enhancing the customer experience and supporting more sustainable practices in catering. Through its app, users can view detailed menus, including CO₂ emissions and nutritional information for each item. This transparency supports users in making informed choices, while other platform features, like loyalty points and feedback options, are designed to improve engagement and cater to diverse customer needs. Beyond customer-facing tools, Kanpla’s platform helps caterers streamline operations, reducing manual labor associated with menu updates, order processing, and customer feedback. The digital solution also aims to reduce food waste by providing caterers with insights into customer preferences and real-time data on fluctuating foot traffic.
With the recent funding, Kanpla intends to accelerate its international expansion, focusing on growth across Europe and the United States. Additionally, the company plans to double its current workforce of 45 employees over the next year to support these ambitions. Jonas Gøttler, COO and Co-Founder of Kanpla, highlighted how changing workplace dynamics have introduced new challenges for caterers, such as inconsistent attendance and the need for more sustainable practices. “We believe software can be a significant enabler in overcoming these issues and aim to position ourselves as the global technology leader in contract catering,” said Gøttler, emphasizing Kanpla’s commitment to helping chefs save time and enhance the customer experience.
CEO and Co-Founder Peter Bæch pointed out the rising demand for digital solutions in Europe’s catering sector. Bæch stated, “Our platform is helping caterers deliver more personalized experiences, better manage fluctuating foot traffic, and reduce food waste.” By enabling caterers to adapt to daily variations in customer numbers and preferences, Kanpla’s platform not only optimizes operations but also promotes sustainability, which is becoming an increasingly important factor in the food services industry.
HenQ, the lead investor, expressed confidence in Kanpla’s potential to continue scaling effectively. A representative from HenQ commented on the company’s success in expanding across multiple countries, adding, “We’re really impressed by their progress.” HenQ’s support reflects growing investor interest in digital solutions that cater to the evolving needs of the food services industry, especially those that promote efficiency and environmental responsibility.
The successful Series A funding round marks a significant milestone in Kanpla’s journey, enabling the company to expand its reach and impact within the catering industry. As the demand for digital transformation grows, particularly in the wake of changing workplace dynamics and sustainability goals, Kanpla is well-positioned to serve as a key player in the market. With this new capital and its planned workforce expansion, Kanpla is set to enhance its platform’s capabilities and extend its digital solutions to new regions, advancing its mission to bring efficiency, personalization, and sustainability to the catering industry.
