German mathematician
Karl Weierstrass was born on October 31, 1815, in Ennigerloh. He was a German mathematician and teacher who also worked as a physicist. Weierstrass studied at the University of Bonn and the University of Münster. During his lifetime, he held the citizenships of the German Confederation and the German Empire .
Weierstrass was a prominent mathematician who had many doctoral students, including Sofia Kovalevskaya, Heinrich Bruns, Georg Cantor, Carl David Tolmé Runge, Alfred Pringsheim, Nikolai Bugaev, Lazarus Fuchs, Hermann Schwarz, Leo Königsberger, and Friedrich Schottky, among others. His doctoral advisor was Christoph Gudermann.
Karl Weierstrass passed away on February 19, 1897, in Berlin.
