Kary Mullis, born on December 28, 1944, was a biochemist and chemist from Lenoir, North Carolina. He was a United States citizen and held a degree from the University of California, Berkeley. Mullis also attended Dreher High School and Georgia Institute of Technology.
He was known for his invention of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and his work on electron transfer. Kary Mullis was awarded numerous prestigious awards throughout his career. He received the 1993 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, the 1990 William Allan Award, the 1992 Robert Koch Prize, and was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 1998.
Joe Neilands served as Mullis' doctoral advisor during his time in academia. Kary Mullis passed away on August 7, 2019, in Newport Beach, California.
