Katsuhiro Otomo (born April 14, 1954) is a Japanese screenwriter, film director, animator, and mangaka (comic artist and writer). He was born in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, and holds Japanese citizenship. Otomo is also known by his Japanese alias "おおとも かつひろ".
Otomo is the author of several notable works, including the manga "Akira", which he also adapted into an animated film in 1988. He also wrote and illustrated the manga "Domu: A Child's Dream", which is considered another one of his notable works.
Katsuhiro Otomo has directed numerous animated films and episodes, including "Perfect Blue", "Steamboy", "Roujin Z", "Robot Carnival", and "Memories (The Twilight Zone)". He has also directed episodes of "Short Peace", "Manie-Manie: Meikyuu Monogatari", and "Gondora", as well as contributed to the animated projects "Korakuen Yuuenchi: Luna Park".
