Kelly Holmes is a retired English middle distance athlete who was born on April 19, 1970, in Pembury, United Kingdom. She is widely recognized for her accomplishments as an athlete, which include winning two Olympic gold medals in 2004 in Athens for the 800m and 1500m events. She also won a bronze medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games in the 800m event.
Holmes' other accolades include winning silver medals at the 1995 Gothenburg and 2003 Paris World Championships in the 1500m and 800m events, respectively, as well as a bronze medal at the 1995 Gothenburg World Championships in the 800m event. Furthermore, she was awarded the Women's European Athlete of the Year in 2004, BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2004, and World Sportswoman of the Year in 2005. Additionally, Holmes was appointed as a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) and a Member of the Order of the British Empire.
Holmes attended Sheffield Hallam University, Hugh Christie Technology College, and Hugh Christie School for her education. She is the daughter of Pam Norman and Derrick Holmes and holds British nationality.
After retiring from athletics, Holmes founded the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust, an organization that aims to inspire and empower disadvantaged young people through sport.
