Kernel Capital is a venture capital fund for technology companies on the island of Ireland. They prefer to invest in companies in the software, communications, telecommunications and networks, semiconductor design, chips, sensors and systems, engineering, medical devices and internet-based sectors.
The Bank of Ireland Kernel Capital Venture Funds, investing in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland are sources of equity finance for technology companies on the island of Ireland. Kernel Capital funds have delivered Gross IRRs of 20% per annum. As of November 2019, they have raised €210 million / £165 million in venture capital funds. The Bank of Ireland Kernel Capital Venture Funds are independently managed by Kernel Capital. Their team are based in Cork, Belfast and Dublin.
Kernel Capital announced their Bank of Ireland Kernel Capital fund II on November 22, 2007 with a raised total of €70 million. On February 3, 2011, Kernel Capital announced the Bank of Ireland MedTech Accelerator Fund with a raised total of €10 million. And Kernel Capital announced The Bank of Ireland Kernel Capital Growth Fund (NI) on October 24, 2013 with a raised total of £25 million.
