Keyfactor is a software company that provides cloud-first PKI as a service and crypto-agility solutions. The Independence, Ohio-based company was founded in 2001 by Kevin von Keyserling and Ted Shorter. Keyfactor's current CEO is Jordan Rackie, who took over the position from von Keyserling in 2019. Shorter is Keyfactor's CTO.
Keyfactor's preliminary offering is cloud PKI as a service. PKI, short for public key infrastructure, is a set of roles, policies, hardware, software, and procedures that govern the issuance of digital certificates in order to protect sensitive data; create unique digital identities for users, devices, and applications; and secure end-to-end communications. Organizations mainly rely on PKI to manage security through encryption. Keyfactor manages companies' PKIs as a cloud-based service that allows organizations to manage all of their machine identities on one platform. Keyfactor's platform also offers end-to-end automation that enables automated renewal and deployment. The platform is also scalable and can handle up to 500 million certificates.
Keyfactor also assists organizations in becoming crypto-agile, meaning their security systems are able to support and switch between multiple cryptographic primitives and algorithms at the same time. Keyfactor's crypto-agility platform, part of its PKI platform, helps companies maintain control over all keys and certificates in their environment. Also housed in the cloud, Keyfactor's crypto-agility services aim to help organizations reduce risk, prevent disruptions caused by certificate-related outages, simplify their operations, and work faster.
Keyfactor has raised $211.9 million over six funding rounds since 2009. The company most recently raised a $125 million private equity round from Insight Partners on April 15, 2021.
