Kitty Hawk is a California-based aeronautics company that derives its name from the town where the Wright Brothers first took flight. The company's stated goal is to free people from traffic with electric transportation and solutions. It designs, test, and builds vertical take-off and landing products for both formal and informal contexts.
Kitty Hawk has two products, which are both electric vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) vehicles: Heavyside and Flyer. Heavyside is an every day air taxi that can take off and land similarly to a helicopter, allowing a smaller landing pad space that would normally be needed for aviation devices. Unlike a helicopter, Heavyside is 100 times quieter, thus not causing noise disruption in suburban areas.
Flyer is designed for a personal flying experience. It is an aircraft made of composite material which makes it lightweight, aerodynamic, and waterproof. It uses lithium-polymer batteries for power and has software that employs data from senors on the aircraft to aid with the process of flying.
