kiutra is a company developing next-generation cooling devices for basic research, quantum technology, and detector applications based on magnetic cooling. kiutra's cryogen-free cooling solutions provide sub-Kelvin temperatures for basic research, material science, quantum technology, high-performance electronics, and detector applications. They offer fully automatic turnkey systems designed to meet the requirements of each individual customer.
Many quantum technologies require low operating temperatures. kiutra is developing cooling that can be implemented on an industrial scale without the use of expensive and rare liquefied gases. Instead, kiutra utilizes an innovative magnetic cooling process. kiutra's all-electrical cooling devices combine magnetic refrigeration and closed-cycle pre-cooling to provide cryogenic temperatures.
kiutra is a spin-off from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) launched at the Chair for the Topology of Correlated Systems in July 2018. Founded by Alexander Regnat, Jan Spallek, Tomek Schulz and Professor Christian Pfleiderer, the company started a one-year incubation at the European Space Agency Business Incubation Centre in Oberpfaffenhofen, Bavaria, on 1 January 2019.
kiutra is funded by “EXIST Transfer of Research”, a program of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy which supports excellent, research-based Startups. A consortium made up of lead investor High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF), deep-tech VC investor APEX Ventures and the Unternehmer TUM Initiative for Industrial Innovators is investing a seven-figure sum in kiutra. The capital will strengthen global sales and distribution, further increase production capacities, and expand the basic technology for the rapidly growing quantum technology market.
