KnipBio is a biotechnology company that was founded in 2013 by Larry Feinberg and Chris Marx, and is headquartered in Lowell, Massachusetts. KnipBio makes single cell protein products out of non-food feedstocks that are used as fish feed. Their fish feed product is called KnipBio Meal and is made using semi-continuous batch fermentation of agricultural inputs with a microorganisms called Methylobacterium extorquens. The company claims that because the fermentation process relies on agricultural inputs and not oil the company is able to sustainably and reliably produce KnipBio meal.
