KnipBio is a biotechnology company that was founded in 2013 by Larry Feinberg and Chris Marx, and is headquartered in Lowell, Massachusetts. KnipBio makes single cell protein products out of non-food feedstocks that are used as fish feed. Their fish feed product is called KnipBio Meal and is made using semi-continuous batch fermentation of agricultural inputs with a microorganisms called Methylobacterium extorquens. The company claims that because the fermentation process relies on agricultural inputs and not oil the company is able to sustainably and reliably produce KnipBio meal.
On October 29, 2014 KnipBio received a $50,000 from MassChallenge.
On January 20, 2015 KnipBio closed their series A funding round with $1.6 million in funding from Cherrystone Angel Group.
On January 3, 2017 KnipBio closed their Series B funding round with $2 million in funding from Launchpad Vanture Group and Cherrystone Angel Group.
