Cyber Operations are constrained by their inability to Observe and Orient around the soft Internet of Things (IoT) underbelly of the enterprise network. Network Cartographer identifies manufacturer, product, version and function of all the little things to orient around the network such that the operators can decide and act. Phase 1 develops a module for Kudu’s existing IoT firmware analysis system to demonstrate the feasibility of automatically identifying highly differentiating input to network services which produce observable outputs that are sufficient to differentiate it from similar devices. Network Cartographer represents a novel application of symbolic analysis that can accurately and specifically identify IoT device endpoints by observing network responses to programmatically synthesized inputs.
