The Los Angeles Galaxy is a Major League Soccer (MLS) team playing in the Western Conference. It was founded in 1994 and is owned by Anschutz Entertainment Group, an American global sporting and music entertainment presenter. The team first played their home games at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California but now plays all home games at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
Some of the club's biggest moves include signing David Beckham, a former professional soccer player from London, England, known for his iconic bending free kicks and arguably one of the most recognizable midfielders of his generation; and American soccer player, Landon Donovan, another widely known player marked by the MLS as the greatest American soccer player of all time and all-time leading scorer for the club.
The LA Galaxy is one of the ten founding teams in the MLS. Their name comes from the Hollywood stars. Their uniform kits are navy blue, white, and gold. For home games, they are white and away games are navy blue. The colors were adopted to coincide with David Beckham's arrival in 2007. Prior to 2007, the Galaxy played in other color combinations, including gold, teal green, and white with black accents.
The Galaxy's current mascot, Cozmo, is dark blue with yellow eyebrows to match the team's uniform colors. Cozmo replaced the team's original mascot, Twizzle, another outer space creature that more resembled a human.
In their inaugural season, the Galaxy finished first in their conference before losing the first MLS Cup final to DC United. Several years later, in 2002, the Galaxy won their first MLS Cup during their fourth appearance after defeating the New England Revolution.
The team's current president is Chris Klein, a former MLS player, and was promoted from Vice President on January 28, 2013. The club's current head coach, Greg Vanney, is a former professional soccer player.
