Legislation

Legislation is the preparation and enactment of laws by a government's legislative body through its lawmaking process. The legislative process includes evaluating, amending, and voting on proposed laws.

• A bill is a legislative proposal before it becomes law.
• Bills become laws once the legislative process is complete.
• Policy created by the executive branch is not legislation nor is it subject to the legislative process.

The word, legislation is derived from the Latin term legis latio, which translated means "proposing of a law."
