Building
In 1899-1900, the architect R. A. Berzen erected houses No. 33-35 for the commercial Tenishevsky School, founded by Prince V. N. Tenishev. For example, the poet O. E. Mandelstam (1900-1907) and the writer V. V. Nabokov (1911-1917) studied at this school. In 1914, in the large hall of the school, the performances "Puppet Show" and "The Stranger" based on the works of A. Blok staged by Vs. Meyerhold.
In 1922, the building was given to one of the world's first professional repertory children's theaters - the Leningrad Theater of the Young Spectator. In 1962, the theater moved to a building specially built for it on Pionerskaya Square, and an educational theater of the Leningrad State Institute of Theater, Music and Cinematography was opened in the old building on Mokhovaya Street. The memorial plaque dedicated to the founder of the Youth Theater A. A. Bryantsev reminds of the Tyuzov days.
