Leo Szilard was a physicist and engineer born in Budapest, Hungary on February 11, 1898. He held citizenships in Hungary, Germany, and the United States. Szilard received his education at the Technical University of Berlin, Budapest University of Technology and Economics, and Humboldt University of Berlin. His doctoral advisor was Max von Laue.
During his career, Szilard was a founder of nuclear reactors. He passed away in La Jolla on May 30, 1964. Leo Szilard was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 1996.
