German mathematician who worked on number theory and algebra (1823–1891)
Leopold Kronecker (1823-1891) was a German mathematician, born in Legnica and died in Berlin. He held citizenship in Germany, the German Confederation, and the German Empire. Kronecker received his education from the University of Bonn, Humboldt University of Berlin, and the University of Wrocław.
Kronecker's doctoral advisor was Peter Gustav Lejeune Dirichlet, and he had several doctoral students, including Franz Mertens, Adolf Kneser, Kurt Hensel, Mathias Lerch, Leopold Gegenbauer, Paul Stäckel, Ludwig Schlesinger, and Ernst Kötter.
Kronecker's notable works include the Kronecker delta and the Kronecker product.
